Specialist Pregnancy and Postnatal Pilates Guided by Expert Physiotherapists
Many exercise classes claim to be safe for pregnancy, but generic fitness Pilates often lacks the clinical precision required to manage a changing pelvis, abdominal separation, or a recovering pelvic floor.
At Physio Effect, our clinical Pilates program is designed, modified, and led exclusively by fully qualified Chartered Physiotherapists. Directed by Mariam Kilpatrick, who brings over 20 years of intensive clinical rehab experience, our small-group sessions bridge the gap between hands-on treatment and functional, long-term strength. Located within our dedicated studio at the Everyday Athlete (EDA) Gym in North Glasgow, we provide a highly supportive environment tailored entirely to prenatal safety and postpartum rehabilitation.
Our Safety First Policy: To ensure your absolute safety and tailor every exercise to your specific anatomy, all participants must attend a brief 1:1 Clinical Pilates Screening before joining their first group block.
Why Choose Physio-Led Clinical Pilates?
When your class is taught by an expert physiotherapist rather than a standard fitness instructor, your workout becomes a targeted rehabilitation session.
Crybaby Postnatal Pilates at Physio Effect Glasgow
Pelvic Floor & Core Integrity: We focus deeply on the coordination of your deep core system—the diaphragm, transversus abdominis, and pelvic floor—preventing leaking and structural strain.
Management of PGP and SPD: Exercises are specifically adapted to avoid aggravating Pelvic Girdle Pain or Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction, using stabilization to actively reduce joint discomfort.
Small Class Sizes: We strictly limit our class numbers. This guarantees you receive close, individual attention and real-time form corrections from your physiotherapist throughout the session.
Our Specialized Pilates Blocks:
Antenatal (Pregnancy) Pilates
Safe and highly effective from your second trimester onwards. These sessions are designed to maintain pelvic stability, manage shifting posture, and build the physical endurance and breath control needed for labor and birth.
"Crybaby" Postnatal Pilates
Our signature postnatal recovery program. Designed for mums from 6 weeks postpartum (or 8 weeks following a C-section), this progressive class focuses heavily on resolving Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation), rebuilding pelvic floor strength, and easing the upper back tension that comes with feeding and carrying a newborn.
The Postnatal Advantage: You are fully welcome to bring your pre-crawling baby along to class while you focus on your recovery.

Because our classes are clinically managed to ensure high-quality care, you cannot drop into a session blindly. Getting started is simple:
Book Your 1:1 Screening: Schedule a brief initial assessment with Mariam or Jenny. They will check your deep core activation, assess any joint vulnerabilities (like PGP or abdominal gaps), and teach you the foundational Pilates triggers.
Reserve Your Block: Once cleared, our team will place you into the upcoming 4- or 6-week class block that fits your schedule.
Clinical Pilates FAQs
-
This is a private, 1:1 session with one of our pelvic health physiotherapists. They will take a brief medical history, physically check your posture, assess your deep abdominal wall, and ensure you can correctly activate your pelvic floor. This ensures that when you join the group class, every movement is completely safe and customized for your body.
-
Yes, absolutely. Because the classes are led by physiotherapists, we specialize in adapting exercises on the fly. If a specific movement irritates your pelvis or back, your therapist will instantly provide a modified version that builds strength without causing irritation.

Wear comfortable, stretchy exercise clothing that allows you to move freely. You do not need shoes; the class is performed either in bare feet or in grip socks. All specialized mats and clinical equipment are fully provided by our studio.
